Living in the Moment Exhibition Hockey Game
We're all provided one life to live and so many seemingly random things can have dramatic effects on that life. I was moved recently by a single tweet I saw from a Twitter follower on June 9th:
@AdamZukiwsky
I avoided this info until today. Im only sharing this so people know should they ever be so unlucky as to have pancreatic cancer enter their lives. I plan on enjoying every second of every day I have left.
It's really about perspective. If you look up Adam on Twitter, you'll see he's one of many Canadians that has been diagnosed with cancer. However, Adam shared the report from oncology which indicated that the cancer he has been diagnosed with has spread and with chemotherapy he can expect a survival timeline of 8 1/2 to 11months. Adam is 38, he has got a family, and under normal circumstances should be expecting to watch them grow with him.
Here's the thing, I do a hockey podcast and I've also run a couple of charity hockey games, so when I read this, I thought I'd reach out to Adam and see if I could help him with "enjoying every second of ever day". I suggested we do a hockey game and celebrate a moment with him. I didn't know if he'd say yes, but he did.
So, Adam and I got on the phone. Frankly, I was a little nervous talking to a man who has been given a timeline for life, but Adam was true to his word, I could sense he was going to do his best to enjoy every second and I was immediately at ease. We had a couple of brief laughs and we put the wheels in motion. One thing that struck me was that he still had plans for the winter to get on the ice and teach his daughter to skate, he's just taking in every moment he can.
So here we are, we don't really know how long Adam has. I don't even really know Adam, but I'm moved by his willingness to share his experience with me and with everyone, and I'm inspired by him because I sense he's meaningful in his intentions. This hockey game we're doing is very personal because it's about all of us "enjoying every second of every day" WE have left and Adam sharing some of these moments with us.
So, if you can afford to, please donate to Pancreatic Cancer Canada. Every dollar could mean more seconds in someone's life or the difference for someone's dad, husband, wife, mother, sister, brother... AND this is for Adam and about Adam.
