7 days Pancreatic Cancer treatment and awareness fundraiser
In late October 2019 my father was diagnosed with Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer. A cancer which is fast, hard to detect, and has a 5 year survival rate of 11%. In March 2020, just before the pandemic, his battle with Cancer ended. From diagnosis to the end was only 5 months. It was one of the hardest things I have ever faced and has profoundly changed me in so many ways. My family and I miss his gentleness, playfulness, terrible Dad jokes and general awesomeness.
Normally, I set off fireworks in his memory, but this year I really wanted to do something different and was inspired by a recent foray into the cycling world as a result of an injury that had me give up weightlifting for a while. A quick google of cycling fundraisers in Ontario listed this one at the top, and serendipitously so, near the date of his birthday, and passing through the place he lived and loved most.
On June 1st I'll be cycling 165km through Muskoka to raise awareness of pancreatic cancer as well as funds to help raise the rate of survival and support those battling something that takes people way too early. My father died at age 64.
Please pledge me and help me reach my fundraising goal! Every pledge takes us one step further in the fight for life.
For 2023, you can register to ride with us virutally, riding with us anytime or anywhere on May 27th - June 2nd. For more details or to register please visit https://pancreaticcancercanada.ca/7-days/. Together we can #RaiseTheRate of pancreatic cancer survival!
