Why 7 Days in May
Before 2021, I had never heard of 7 Days in May. And, like so many others here, I wish I still didn't. But let's rewind a bit...
Last summer I had the opportunity to ride with a fundraiser put on by Sick Kids to raise money for research to kick cancer's butt, specifically for kids. It was a great opportunity. I saw so much support from so many family, friends and co-workers. I was a fantastic way to build community and to remember that life is often bigger than all the things that are happening around us during this Covid season.
Then, at the beginning of 2021 our family received the news that no one thought we would receive. My mom had a mass on her pancreas, and it was making her quite sick. After some waiting (too much waiting), we found out that she had pancreatic cancer. While at the beginning of this I didn't know all the details, in the pit of my stomach I knew, that this news was some of the worst you can receive.
Fast forward...
You all know my mom, or if you don't, you know from others how amazing she is. My dad always says she has a huge fan club, and how true that is. If anyone deserves a fan club, it's my mom. Growing up, she was always there for me. Whether it was health concerns (my own cancer scare in grade 3), surgeries, to growing pains, school, making big decisions, etc., always there to help, to talk, and to share advice when she knew I wanted it. As an adult... well, she is still always there for me. For my family, and for the same things, just bigger now that we have kids of our own. Sacrifice. That is a word that sums up so much of my mom's life. She always puts others before herself. Words cannot express in my mind how amazing she is. Sometimes BIG feelings are something you can't put to words. Today, I have no words.
So....
I am participating in 7 Days in May, a unqiue cycling event and fundraiser founded in 2012 to increase awareness about pancreatic cancer and to raise much needed funds to help raise the rate of pancreatic cancer survival.
Please pledge me and help me reach my fundraising goal! Every pledge takes us one step further in the fight for life.
