EVERY DAY IN MAY!!!
2021 may not be going to plan, but it is providing us with an opportunity to do something bigger than us. This May, the kids and I will be riding EVERY DAY IN MAY together on our Fat Bikes in Memory of our dear fat bike loving friend Jeff Vervaeke, and our cancer warrior Lara, while we continue to support the amazing organization that is 7 Days in May supporting, creating awareness for and fundraising for research to end Pancreatic Cancer.
Lara and her family are why I joined this ride in 2017. Life is Good cause she's here to share it with us all. She is here because research and clinical studies have provided treatments that are helping her fight off Pancreatic Cancer.
To say 7 Days in May is important to me would be an understatement as many of you know. While it has brought some incredibly important people into my life, it has helped provide hope and prolonged life to so many more, including the amazing gal that I ride for – Lara!
It has become important to our family because the kids and Jeff have seen first hand what it takes of my time to train and participate for a 7 day 1150km ride and a week away from the family. Plus what it takes from them to support me in this event.
Five years ago Lara was diagnosed with terminal cancer of the pancreas. Five years later she's still here, still fighting and still living. She's had 5 years with her family and 5 years with friends. While there have been some great memories - it's not enough! She deserves more! She deserves ALL the experiences that a full long cancer free life brings. It hasn't been and easy fight and while battles have been won and lost along the way the war rages on.
Committed to 10 years, the founding family for 7 Days will be stepping down after this ride in 2021. The war will rage on with pancreatic cancer, however this fundraising avenue will no longer be the same without its amazing volunteers and organizers. I feel incredibly honoured to be a part of this ride in 2021. Thank you for providing a place for us to focus our efforts to make a difference.
While this ride is always for pancreatic cancer it also holds a special memorial space in our hearts as we ride for our dear friend Jeff Vervaeke who sadly passed away following a tragic accident just outside of Kingston while participating in 2018. Another rider was seriously injured in this accident, while other riders and witnesses had their lives changed for having seen and been present during the whole event.
Please pledge me and help us reach our fundraising goal and beyond! Every pledge takes us one step further in the fight for life. Thanks to the incredible work of the organizers ALL pledges go straight to the cause. No donations will be lost to administration fees. Everything goes towards fighting the fight.
Consider riding "with" us every day in May, or choose your own way of riding in support of www.7daysinmay.com. Together we can #RaiseTheRate of pancreatic cancer survival!
