Welcome to My Personal Page
I am participating in 7 Days In May, a cycling event and fundraiser founded in 2012 to increase awareness about pancreas cancer and to raise funds to help find a cure for this deadly affliction.
Pancreas cancer is one of the most lethal forms of cancer: 95% of those afflicted die within the first 5 years, and a shocking 75% die within the first year. Surgery offers the best chance for long term survival. Only 15% of patients are diagnosed early enough to be eligible for surgery. The most common form of surgery for removal of a pancreas tumor is the whipple procedure which is followed by chemotherapy or a combination of chemotherapy/radiation. Approximately 52% of all patients are diagnosed when the disease has spread to surrounding organs leaving little hope for survival (only 2% will survive ten years).
100% of funds collected will be donated to the PA.6 Clinical Trial running out of Kingston, Ontario. This trial focuses on finding a cure for this terrible disease.
This will be my second event, and I have already started training hard for it. I will be joining a group of dedicated cyclists who make the annual 7 day trek around Lake Ontario to raise funds and awareness for pancreas cancer. The trek will be about 1150km (avg 160 a day) and has a lot of climbing, it will certainly put my physical abilities to the test.
I will not be taking this challenge lightly, as a new person to the team, I aim to beat my donation goal, and will be pushing myself to the limit during training and the ride.
Donate Today, and together we can #EndPanCan!
