7 Days in May 2022 - Martin Macdonald
2022 will mark the 6th time I have taken on the 7 Days In May cycling challenge in support of fundraising for Pancreatic Cancer. To date, the cause has raised almost $1,100,000 - 100% of which goes directly to pancreatic cancer research in Canada.
Pancreatic Cancer remains the deadliest of the major cancers, with a first year survival rate of only 25%, and a 5 year survival rate of only 8%. The good news is that the survival rate has actually increased in recent years and with the focus of the Pancreatic Cancer Canada Foundation, we are optimistic that the survival rate will continue to increase.
As in 2021, 7 Days In May will direct 100% of funds raised to PancOne initiative that is being run by Pancreatic Cancer Canada. All proceeds will be directed towards clinical trials and other direct studies, focused on early detection and a cure as well as providing support and education for those impacted by the disease.
After the past two Covid years, when I cycled virtually, this year I will be joining a small, yet dedicated group of cyclists as we ride for 7 days and 1,100km throughout Western Ontario. We start May 28 from Oakville with stops in Barrie, Orillia, Goderich, London and Simcoe, before returning to Oakville on June 3.
2022 will mark the final year that the founders of 7 Days in May, Jan and Gord Townley will manage and operate the ride. To close out their incredible tenure, a fundraising target of $250,000 has been set. As a founding principal of 7 Days in May, 100% of funds raised will go to the cause. All administrative fees and overheads are managed by sponsors and riders.
