In Honour of Cathy
After a heroic battle with this brutal disease, we lost the most amazing Mom, Bubby and best friend that anyone could ask for on October 20th, 2022
Our mom went undiagnosed for far too long, she was ignored by her family doctor and told that her symptoms were insignificant. Once finally diagnosed her treatment options were limited and unsuccessful. We know this is the story of far too many others out there as well so please consider donating so that other families can be saved this heartache.
After months, and possibly years, of seemingly unrelated symptoms, it was finally the unrelenting back pain that ultimately drove our mom to the emergency room. While trying to rule out other causes the doctors discovered a large pancreatic mass. A couple of weeks later a biopsy confirmed what we all feared, the diagnosis of pancreatic cancer.
She underwent 8 rounds of brutal and exhausting chemotherapy in hopes that it would shrink the tumor enough for it to be removed. Unfortunately the surgeon’s attempt was unsuccessful and over the next several months our mom suffered severe complications from both the surgery and the cancer that had her become septic, get admitted to the ICU, have a bowel blockage, endure more surgery and lose her ability to eat by mouth. Throughout all of this the tumor pain was so severe and unable to be controlled that it greatly impacted her quality of life and the quality of time we were able to spend together.
Ultimately the cancer was simply more than her body could continue to endure and after less than one year from her diagnosis this courageous fighter succumbed to this brutal disease.
We miss her terribly and would love to see a little bit of good come out of this tragic situation. Please consider donating in order to further research and allow those diagnosed with this horrific disease more time with their families.
